pantsdown question 11

The FancyPants Award: What's the one luxury you lust after, regardless of how expensive, frivolous, and made by starving three-year-old sweatshop workers it is?
---------------------------------

i lust after three things: books, shoes, and bags.

books: i'm especially a sucker for the cloth bound variety. i also am not discriminatory when it comes to content. photos, prints, literature, anthology, i don't care. bring it on. i love the smells, the feel, the look. i obsess over typeface, ink subtleties, paper stock. i also host an undying love for Chronicle Books. like this address book:

isn't it great? (let me know if you'd like to buy it for me.) one of my design professors once did a book about the history of chocolate. the pages were a tannish creme and she used chocolate brown ink rather than the standard black. not only was the book beautiful, but it was warm and sensuous. so, yeah, i'm really into books.

shoes: i own about fifty pairs of shoes, ranging from flip flops to sandals to tennis to boots. i used to have more than that, but i streamlined. there are about five more pairs i have my eye on. the thing is, i need a separate set for each season. i don't wear covered-foot shoes in the summer. i don't wear open-foot shoes in the winter. you know? there's a time and place. now, i am wearing boots right now, but how can you not wear them when also wearing ribbed camel cords and an uberwhite tank top?

lest i digress, shoes are my thang. i hate it cause it's so stereotypical. we were in the Man Section of sears the other day and the guy trying to sell us overpriced tools used this as his selling method, (said to my boyfriend) "hey, you deserve 'em! think about how much she drops on shoes!" and i really wanted to dropkick that mother fucker. i do love them, but it can't be held against me. especially since i usually don't go for one expensive pair. rather, i buy five cheap pairs for the price of that one expensive pair. see the economy?

bags: another luxurious downfall. i currently own about 10 bags. i use one. my sister just brought me a new one from cooperstown, so i'm using it right now, though i think i'm gonna auction it at ebay. regardless, i have them in all shapes, sizes, textures and colors. brown straw for sultry summer days, black leather to match the leather jacket on chilly urban days, sporty metallic blue pvc for cheeky night, the marilyn monroe handbag for spunky evenings on the town in the bourgie areas, small black tote for the not so enjoyable but nonetheless mandatory evening, etc.

i suppose some people will say godiva chocolates or tiffany lamps or even salmon steaks and roasted garlic, but i'm a simple girl with simple lusts. i didn't even mention my addiction to the Body Shop (have you heard the news? no more PALMSHINE products!) and the fifteen dozen bottles of half used lotion. i don't think you really want to know about my unhealthy obsession with anna nicole and trading spaces. i mean, no i don't like the leopard and pink fur walls, but i'd love to lounge on that bed with busty anna.

oh man, can't believe i just admitted that!
